Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

In the Zod engine these 4 tiles are marked as "not water tiles", so tanks can drive on them. I changed that (in the next version), so that they are "water tiles". Then tanks can't drive there, but the water splash animation is being shown which is also wrong. Basically, the problem is that the Zod ...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

I started writing down the file format here: https://sourceforge.net/p/zedonline/wiki/zmap_file_format/ but it's not complete yet. I changed some minor things, so what is written on page is actually not correct anymore. Most insignificant changes to the zod format are checksum, digital signatures, ...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

@BallWin Thanks! Great to have all that data. Currently, I am feeling like I work at 10 construction sites at once. Not really time to improve the map editor, unfortunately. I'm working on a level editor now. For successful implementation it is required to obtain the adjacency matrixes for tiles. E...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

Today on Z DOS, had probably the strangest and most brilliant end-game scenario so far Now for the interesting part Both Howitzers were just a pixel out of range, so they wouldn't auto-attack each other https://i.ibb.co/kSTz33K/bandicam-2019-03-30-15-20-29-558.jpg https://i.ibb.co/VJGbDPC/bandicam-...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

Isn't it more simple solution to preserve the original tileset with its interactions between tiles, and add to Zod Engine only small routine which will every surface tile draw randomly with 2 different graphics pictures?? Everything would be preserved backward compatible without serious changes and...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

Astonishing analysis around map editor BallWin. Do you want to add new tiles types to the game? I though your aim is only to make higher resolution of existing tiles-types. Increasing resolution is one of the goals. To do this, the existing set of tiles must be expanded. At low resolution, a small ...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

for DaMarkov How's the map editor coming along? There's hard work to do. Remember I talked about transition tiles? This is only one kind of connection between tiles. Most have a preference for docking with other tiles in the direction of 0-45-90-135-180-225-270-315 degrees. Some have a short list o...

I will have to take more screenshots from Z DOS and compare all 64 combinations. That's the only they to get is precise.
Anyway, I think it already looks much better.
Cool. It's definitely better than it was.

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

http://zzone.lewe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=10551&p=26483#p26483 I am aware of this thread. I though for a moment Ballwin might have animation and sprites for the turret of the firetruck. I don't. However, once upon a time I integrated the heavy tank animation into the Microsoft Liquid Motion A...

Re: Something new.

All good. I suggest _brightness_property to be an unsigned char to have a smooth border between the areas one can see and the invisible/dark ones. Thinking about it, one brightness value will now be enough if the tiles are allowed to have a size of 48x48. Maybe 4 brightness value for the 4 corners ...

Re: Something new.

Right now I'm making a prototype for the basic elements of the level map (tiles). The inclusion of new properties will open up great possibilities. At the moment this includes: // ** the properties of the tile // ------------------------------------------------- bool _H_mirror_property{true}; //hori...

Re: Something new.

Guys, I don't see any technical problems. However, good artistic skills are required to draw a set of tiles. At the moment, it is important to draw additional sets to increase the resolution of the original maps. Texture unit currently 16x16. In my opinion it is necessary to add an additional 32x32,...

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

It's good news. We need to think about increasing the resolution of textures and sprites. I want to try using the "Tiled" editor to build a landscape and experiment with textures. http://generalzod.narod.ru/OpenSource/IMG/sTiled_base_surf.png To change the resolution of the sprites will probably hav...

Before I go... Copy the compiler output from a failed build (where error messages are contained). Will post it here.

Re: ZED Online - a fork of the Zod Engine

OK, you definitely linking to SDL_mixer2. Maybe my version of SDL2 is old and has a bug. I will redownload SDL2 and compile again. Are you compiling to 32 bit or 64 bit? My system http://generalzod.narod.ru/OpenSource/IMG/my_sys.png therefore 64 bit. Information concerning the installed versions of...
