Z sprites ripped

Hey all,

Not sure how alive this forum is and if anybody cares but....

Since I couldnt find any collection of the original Z sprites I decided to try to extract them myself out of the original sprites.rsc file. Using a program called 'Game Extractor' that was recommended by someone here on the forums I was able to extract about 7000 unnamed files from sprites.rsc. Unfortunately these files did not have any extension and they did not appear to be lbm files. So I wrote a little program that tries to create the sprites out of them. Apparently these sprites feature some strange form of interleaving pixels in the resulting image. Weird stuff, anyway some results can be found here

There are still some problems with the colors, I tried using some of the palettes that I acquired by one of the pac extractors found somewhere on this forum, but its still not good looking. Also the header and thus the offset of the file are still not entirely clear but I might spend some more time on figuring that out. Not sure what i'm going to do with the sprites now that I have them but I might try to start to program an RTS similar to Z and use these graphics along with the tilesets. Woohoo, nice work! Indeed the palettes seem a bit off, but they're obviously the sprites. :D

Yes, I managed to fix the colors now except for some of the buildings sprites that use the palettes from the tilesets and some interface sprites. Also some problem with the offsets are still there but the colors of most sprites exactly resemble those of the sprites in game.

I have now correctly ripped most of the sprites from the original Z game except some palette problems with some of the User Interface sprites. But most of the building sprites and robot sprites are present and colored correctly. I'll try to contact the webmaster for putting it in the downloads section. Could be done but i dont know how the rsc format can be reconstructed. Besides that u can create some nice animated gifs out of it :) or use it for some Z remake. I was just curious about the sprites and wanted to see if i could extract them and thought i might as well share them with you guys

Cool stoff in there. Couldn't find Adam and Brad chilling in the sun :lol: I did not know that robots must do bodybuilding :mrgreen:

by the way, in this sprites rip you can find the misterious TANKER TRUCK (file 5216.bmp) and another strange TENT TRUCK (file 5217.bmp) :cheers:

There are 2 types:
1) Truck - 005217
2) Fire Truck - 005216

Unfortunately Truck and Fire_Truck no work in game. Instead of it at a level are only drivers of Trucks loaded (trucks is not present). So occurs in Expansh. Probably in DOS of the version the lorries can work... It is studied...
