I tried to think of a way of a way you could have it so players could enter and leave games already in progress and I came to the conclusion that because of the capture the flag style of the game, everyone has to start the game at the same time. Also this game evolves around relatively short battles where the tide can turn very quickly and large scale management is nearly impossible - atleast against a computer player. Were you planning on using Z graphics goblin?

Even teamplay is actually alittle difficult even in a normal setup. Are you allowed to capture your teammates territories? Obviously team play is needed in a new remake...

Yeah was thinking of terrain and tanks similar to the ones found in Z.

A little more info since there is interest...

Territories are shared with teammates, so like Z they will appear your team color.
And money gathered by holding territories is split among teammates.
The screen will be locked on your tank so fog of war is not needed, the minimap will display the different territories and which team controls them as well as allied tank positions.
Terrain like Z cliffs and bridges will allow for choke points.

Killing an enemy not only awards the team with VP but the person who got the killing blow will get money.

I have a lot of ideas down on paper such as random crate power ups and that kind of stuff which can be toggled on and off with server setting.

Games will go for around 10 or 15 minutes.

What are the chances of playing around with your source code, maybe I'll revive the project.

Although I really need other team members to keep motivated.
Hi, goblin!
I don't feel like skipping from one project to another, so you better help me with Z clone :P

IceCream is a robust 2D engine. It really streamlines game development cycle and saves a ton of coding 8)
Behold how robot factory is designed in the editor:

WinZMod - mod for playing Z with high screen resolution
ZEdMod - ZEditor mod allowing to edit single player levels
ZGFX - Utility for extracting Z graphic
ZStats - Small utility for fine-tuning unit statistics

Sure Meeky,

I'd be willing to help out with Z clone.

Can use what I learn to possibly revive my project in the future.

I work as a Web Application Developer at Deakin University so PHP, Oracle and Javascript are what I use daily. However I have done some coding with C# and have looked into XNA breifly.

You can reach me on mattberends(AT)msn(DOT)com.

Hi Meeky,

Do I need to become a member to get icecream off svn.
The dll file gives me...
"Error 1 Assembly IceCream was built with a reference to Microsoft.Xna.Framework with an incorrect version 3.0.0.0 when version 3.1.0.0 was expected. IceCreamGame"
Can I get an updated library file.

Just had a quick look at it last night. I should have some free time later this week to give it a thorough looking at.

Hi, goblin!
Nope, it's a public SVN: http://svn.assembla.com/svn/IceCream. I use TortoiseSVN client and quite happy with it.
Also you can browse code manually http://www.assembla.com/spaces/IceCream ... rsion_tool

I get a number of errors trying to run the build you sent me.
Have you modified the code within the icecream project?

Universities are very busy at the start of the year, not had much free time.

So great Meeky, those zombie tough-driven jeeps are awesome!

Is the zooming an ingame feature? That zoom made me think if we could have extralarge (I mean larger than the maximum of 256x256) levels, will it be possible?

Also map sliding seems so fluent, that impresses me very much. Onge again, great work so far (and I suppose the next updates will be as great too  ).

I just thought of an idea, how about pressing a button like tab which will show you all the unit productions you have, then you can click one and go instantly to that factory to choose a new production.

Awesome, looking great

Its been a real long time since I played Z, do the units deselect once you give them orders (or that just work in progress)?

I like your idea FreakNigh on viewing all unit productions from a menu.

Probalby asking in the wrong place, but has anyone stripped the Z steel soldiers game assets? Would like to see those assests get used in a PROPER sequal.

Unfortunately, the last task is not the least. AI is not an easy task and it's still to be solved (apart from other minor issues)...

Yep, IceCream has built-in zooming capability, so the player could choose the desired camera zoom. But maximum map size is limited by .map files structure and thus maps greater than 2048x2048 px are not supported by ZEditor. To overcome the limitation can only a new map editor.

Seems you indeed haven't played Z for a while. As soon as the unit receives an order, it gets deselected so it doesn't have a selection box displayed around it, but the unit displayed in the web-cam remains unchanged.

Ok, then this feature is up to you :)
