I have just thought of an idea. A "rolling game" where you run a dedicated server where anyone at any time can connect or disconnect and choose the team that they want to be apart of. When a game ends it will just start a new map randomly, and the server runner will choose a list of maps to choose from. It will kind of be like a fps death match style kind of thing. Particularly this will be great so that I can run a few of these kind of games / servers so there is always a public game for people to play. Then of course private games will always be possible between the people who want to do it. Then I guess we will need to decide how players get rid of people who just try to saboteur teams they are apart of.

Just so you know this is implemented and at the end of the day I will release an update so you all can try the game out against each other online.

I think you should use my game design for this open server team based version.
Here in note form (slightly modified).

Each player controls one tank (light tank at start).
As a team captures territories they aquire victory points at a faster rate.
Some territories will have bonus buildings such as repair building (for damaged tanks).
Tanks will travel at different speeds depending on the terrian they are on (roads, dirt etc.)

Each tank will be able to upgrade once per match at a cost to victory points.
Different upgrades will cost different amounts.

Upgrade options:
APC - Fastest vehicle able to drop a mine every x seconds. Also able to spot enemy mines which can then be destroyed.
Medium tank - Health, attack speed and range all slightly increased.
Heavy tank - Health, attack range and damage increased but firing and movement speed is slower.
Missile tank - Increased range, slow to fire but can fire over *freindly units, walls and structures. Can also hit multiple enemies at once if grouped up.

*Friendly fire so carefull positioning is required when aiming at enemy tanks.

have you ever played "sole survivor". They did something like that with the original c&c engine. I enjoyed it. But something like that is going to have to happen after the normal version is done.

BTW the main server is ready to be run but it will take me like an hour to zip everything up and its too late right now, so I will take this time to get more working then I'll upload the executables tomorrow night. But you can now finish a game, then it will load up the next map. Anyone can log in or log out, choose the team they want to help control. And now the Jeep can attack, I will get the gatling gun, sniper, and grunt working tomorrow. And there are a good handful of bug fixes..

I think I did play it. At the time I was not really interested, as I was a fan of rts and fps only.

Only recently I started playing team based games like League of Legends (great game) and Age of Booty (which never took off due to online network issues).

Z mixed with Cannon Fodder (was fun driving cannon fodder tanks around)

I now have the rotation code I need to finish the rest of the effects and weapon fire, so I was able to get the laser firing as well as the gatling gun, grunt, and sniper.

This video was taken with me against a friend on the public server-

If the public server is down and you want me to turn it on just contact me on msn - freaknigh@hotmail.com or on icq/aim 2895872 or gtalk - freaknigh@gmail.com

But the public server is just for demoing, we still have some good time before we are in an official beta stage.

haha nice ya this was fun as hell, especially when you have multiple people on your team and your all managing different parts of the map. It's going to be f'ing awesome when its closer to done and we have people regularly playing. I am going to start holding off of updating the main server though to maybe like once a week, If I actually have the entire weekend to work I normally get massive amounts accomplished. Plus for the next downloadable update I will make some maps with lots of units so you can actually have some fun just battling it out. Right now it's my goal to get it so all the units can attack maybe except the APC (I might make the APC just default to always having a grunt inside just for now).

But here is the pyro -

Looks fantastic! Could you also add that white flashing effect that occurs when units are hit?

Well at some point all the graphics for it were available...

Maybe it is in the demo or dos version of the game?

*checks if it is in the demo sprites* - nope

And yup we'll eventually have the white hit effect.

Nah, Bitmap Brothers had them I guess, but even if BB still existed I don't think they'd give a shit about such a request :\
Maybe I'll find a way to make a new model for it, taking the one existing graphic as a reference... don't know, I don't think it's that important right now actually... it was just sth that came to my mind
