In englisch: Frogster bought all the rights for Speedball 2 and The Chaos Engine and will make a remake with some original bbrothers...

So maybe there is also something else going on for Z...

An update on bitmap-brothers.co.uk? (28th March 2007)
Frogster plays Speedball 2 and The Chaos Engine
Posted: Wednesday, 28th March 2007

Frogster Interactive reanimates two great classics. The Berlin-based publisher has secured itself the worldwide PC license rights of the famous hits Speedball 2 and The Chaos Engine from the legendary British games developer The Bitmap Brothers. The cult reputation of both titles reaches back to the early stages of the computer game era. Since then, a huge fan community has clamoured for new editions again and again. To no avail ? until now! Frogster is aiming to publish both titles in 2007 for the PC with The Bitmap Brothers involved in the development.

The futuristic sportsgame series Speedball was first published in 1988 on Amiga and was a success outright from the start. Versions for nearly every relevant system and very successful sequels followed. The series won numerous awards, such as 1989 the ?Game of the Year? from The Golden Joysticks and ?Best Original Game? from In-Din Arcade. The action-shooter The Chaos Engine had its similarly successful premiere in 1993. The Chaos Engine received numerous awards, among which the SEGA Award 1994 as ?Best Action Game? and the Power Play Award for the ?Multiplayer Game of the Year?.

Fans can register for the newsletter on the official teaser website http://www.speedball2.com.
It's nice to see two great Bitmap Brother's games being revived but... Where is my Z!? :empty:

If only this was a true remake of Chaos Engine because technically tCE and Z had a similar look, a true sequel would be easier that way.

It's a bit of a loose connection but didn't Z use an enhanced version of the Chaos Engine... I don't know much about it though so I could be completely wrong. Looking at them both, they had similar landscapes... Which is why I compared the two.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could clear things up for me though. :d

nice sarcasm
Indeed, it's pretty strange they forgot all about Z. It got high reviews all over.

Right now i'm hoping that they show interest in resurrecting other Bitmap Brothers games, although Speedball 2 has been in production for so long...

Yes, but I think it wasnt a really good selling product. Maybe too complicated and strange for those times where C&C and all the "normal" clones were "in".

Yeah , indeed Z?s history is kind of ironic.

Z is much simpler in concept to learn than C&C, and much easier to get the hang of. But it was about the same time indeed, if I recall.

Wugh, not you too... The-underdogs.org (now .info)'s review stated that Z is a "command and conquer clone" too; that just breaks my heart to hear  (if anyone can point out a single thing they have in common other than that you build tanks, go ahead  )

Well, both of 'em are real-time strategy games but it's not really a specific feature of C&C. Now, I'm really out of common things. :)

Don?t you discuss if Z is a C&C-clone!
The difference is <----so----> huge... the style , gameplay , humor , graphics , story (well . C&C actually had one^^) just everything is different.
I remember when these both games were released in ~1995 - when I was 5 years old :) - everyone talked about C&C but none about Z , if I would not have found the playstation demo on a DemoCD , well , maybe I would not even know the game now.
And this is a thing I do not understand... C&C wasn?t that good (at least not better than Z , or just as good) . hmm...but as well I do not understand why everyone played/plays Counterstrike (and I do not mean the RA1Addon) or [zZz]World of WarCraft[/zZz]...
