About the ZZone

George “Zod” Lewe

I am not a hard core gamer but since computers became part of my life, privately and professionally, I quite enjoy a game here and there to relax.

When Commander Zod came out in 1996 I was instantly caught by its advanced technology and AI at that time and, hell, was it fun to play it. My wife and son got hooked as well at the time and we had some hilarious family LAN parties.

The humor of the game is a factor by itself and when the Internet and web sites picked up speed I thought it might be a good idea to launch one about this fantastic game.

The ZZone

The ZZone was launched in 2004 as a combination of a main website and a community forum. It soon became the official fan website, acknowledged by the Bitmap Brothers, offering first-hand information for the fan community.

In early 2013, due to technical reasons, the main site was taken down while the forum was continued. The forum remained active until today and is the only official Z community left on the web.

Mid 2014, with the release of the original game on Steam and GoG, the main site was overhauled and revived, again providing information, media and other resources about this awesome game.

The story goes on of course. Other fans and developers started to re-implement the game based on modern technologies and platforms. DaMarkov was one of them and in 2019 we started a collaboration for his “Zed Online” installment. Along those activities, the ZZone main site was completely revamped. That’s the one you look at right now.

The ZZone is a free non-profit website from a fan for fans. I do all of it at my own expense. If you feel inclined to donate a buck for a beer, do it here:
